So you have a new puppy! Here at Atomic Dog one of the most enjoyable parts of our job is working with puppies and pet owners in creating a stress free grooming experience. Rest assured your little one is in good hands. Once your puppy is current on their puppy vaccinations (DHLP-Parvo and Rabies) we recommend bringing them in for their introductory grooming service. Usually this takes place at about 4 months of age. This includes a bath, heated fluff dry, nail trim/buff, brush/comb, paw pad and sanitary shave, trim around the face and feet for a polished look, and of course lots of cuddles and a treat. It is important to give them an experience that they enjoy so they can look forward to coming back. They do have a long grooming career ahead of them so we do teach them table manners and address any behaviors we encounter during the grooming process. We like to keep open communication with all of our clients. After each introductory groom we schedule a training and maintenance consultation so we can set you and your little one up for success. This means if your dog is expressing any behaviors that are common amongst puppies such as biting for the brush, separation anxiety, or disfavor for the kennel we will keep you informed of such things. This is not to shame you or make you feel like your dog is not good enough, it is simply so we can train these behaviors out of your puppy using techniques like positive reinforcement and implementing them at home.
